Dorothy Wellman sat down for a teacher meeting at the end of the school day, Friday, May 2nd. She and others in the room began to suspect something was up when Superintendent Patrick Mapes walked into the room with members of the central office administration. They were visiting Sand Creek Elementary School for a reason.
Superintendent Mapes announced Ms. Wellman was named Elementary Teacher of the Year for the entire Hamilton Southeastern School District.
Community Relations Director Emily Abbotts had prepared a video about Dorothy Wellman, with other Sand Creek staff members, her Principal Fatima Rich, but most importantly her students, singing her praises
“it’s been kind of a tricky year,” Dorothy said after receiving the honor. “Some Years are trickier than others.”
As to teaching, “I love it.”
