Fuel Fall to Komets in Overtime to Open Three-Game Weekend

The Indy Fuel opened a three-game weekend Friday night with a 2-1 overtime loss to the Fort Wayne Komets at the Fishers Event Center.

In the only home game of the weekend for Indy, the in-state rivals skated through a scoreless first period marked by tight defense and limited opportunities. Neither team recorded a penalty in the opening 20 minutes, though the physical play picked up late in the period. Fort Wayne held a slight 7-5 edge in shots after one.

Indy broke through midway through the second period. Matt Petgrave scored at the 15:00 mark, finishing a play set up by Jesse Tucker and Owen Robinson to give the Fuel a 1-0 lead. The second period featured minimal stoppages, and Indy carried the momentum into the intermission, outshooting Fort Wayne 17-13 through two periods.

The Komets answered early in the third. Matt Copponi scored at 2:06 to tie the game, with the goal upheld following a video review. The Fuel faced their first penalty of the night at 10:37 when Eric Martin was called for tripping, but Indy’s penalty kill kept the game even. Neither team found the net the rest of regulation, sending the contest to overtime. Through three periods, Indy outshot Fort Wayne 24-17.

Fort Wayne ended the game quickly in the extra session. Just 28 seconds into overtime, Dru Krebs scored the game-winning goal to lift the Komets to the 2-1 victory.

The Fuel now head to Bloomington to close out the weekend with a two-game road set.

The Hamilton County Community Foundation is playing an increasingly visible role in shaping the future of Fishers and the surrounding communities, from supporting local nonprofits to helping guide long-term investments in quality of life.

In this episode of the podcast, I’m joined by Danielle Stiles-Polk, executive director of the Hamilton County Community Foundation, for a wide-ranging conversation about where the foundation is headed and how its work is evolving. We discuss the foundation’s current strategic plan, its priorities for community impact, and how philanthropy is being used to address both immediate needs and long-term challenges in Hamilton County.

Fishers Proclaims Jan. 24 as Indy Ignite Day Ahead of Home Opener

The City of Fishers has officially proclaimed Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, as Indy Ignite Day, recognizing the impact of Indy Ignite Pro Volleyball on the community and women’s professional sports.

Mayor Scott Fadness issued the proclamation this week as the Fishers-based team prepares for its home opener. Indy Ignite Pro Volleyball was founded by members of the local community and is headquartered in Fishers, a point city leaders say underscores the growing role Fishers plays in hosting and supporting professional sports.

City officials praised the organization for elevating women’s professional athletics while inspiring young athletes across central Indiana.

“Indy Ignite represents the best of Fishers — innovation, community investment and a commitment to opportunity,” the city said in a social media announcement celebrating the designation.

The team’s home opener is scheduled for Saturday evening, with pregame festivities beginning at 5 p.m. The first serve is set for 7 p.m. Organizers say only a limited number of tickets remain available for the match.

The proclamation comes as momentum continues to build around women’s professional sports nationwide, with Indy Ignite positioned as a flagship example of that growth in Fishers. City leaders are encouraging residents to attend the game and take part in celebrating the milestone.

Fans attending the opener can expect a festive atmosphere both before and during the match as the community rallies around the team in its inaugural season at home.

Indy Ignite Upsets Reigning Champions in Orlando Thriller

The Indy Ignite women’s volleyball team continued its strong start to the season Thursday night with an impressive road victory, defeating the defending league champion Orlando Valkyries 3–1 on the road at Addition Financial Arena.

Indy took control early, winning the opening set 25–18 before Orlando responded with a narrow 25–23 win in the second. The Ignite regained momentum in a tightly contested third set, edging the Valkyries 27–25, and then closed out the match with a 25–18 victory in the fourth.

The win marked a statement performance for the Ignite against one of the league’s top teams and pushed Indy to a perfect 3–0 record to begin the season.

Head coach Lauren Bertolacci praised her team’s composure and depth following the match. Indy used a varied lineup and balanced offensive attack, with six players finishing with double-digit kills. The Ignite also set franchise records for most kills (66) and most points (86) in a four-set match.

Kayla Lund led the way in her first start of the season, recording 14 kills while adding 13 digs, a block and two service aces. Emoni Bush followed with 13 kills and two aces, while Azhani Tealer provided a spark off the bench with 10 kills.

Setters Ainise Havili and Mia Tuaniga shared playmaking duties, combining for 59 assists as the Ignite offense kept Orlando off balance throughout the night.

The victory in Orlando was a notable milestone for the franchise and served as another sign of the team’s early chemistry and confidence.

The Ignite now return home for their home opener at Fishers Event Center, where they will face the Omaha Supernovas. With momentum on their side and growing fan support in Central Indiana, Indy will look to continue its unbeaten run in front of a hometown crowd.

Bitter Cold, Heavy Snow Headed for Fishers as Weather Advisories Take Effect

Fishers residents are being urged to prepare for a dangerous stretch of winter weather as the National Weather Service has issued both a Cold Weather Advisory and a Winter Storm Warning covering much of Indiana, including Hamilton County.

The Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday, with wind chills expected to drop as low as 20 degrees below zero. Forecasters warn that these dangerously cold conditions could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Prolonged exposure to the cold could also lead to hypothermia.

Residents are advised to limit time outdoors and dress appropriately when outside, including wearing hats, gloves and layered clothing. The National Weather Service also recommends keeping pets indoors as much as possible and checking frequently on older family members, friends and neighbors. Officials caution residents to use space heaters safely and to never use generators or grills indoors.

In addition to the bitter cold, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued from 7 p.m. Saturday through 7 p.m. Sunday. The storm is expected to bring heavy snow, with total accumulations between 5 and 7 inches across central Indiana.

The heaviest snowfall is forecast to occur late Saturday night through early Sunday afternoon. During that time, travel conditions could become very difficult, especially on untreated roads. Reduced visibility and snow-covered roadways are expected to impact travel throughout Fishers and the surrounding area.

Residents who must travel during the storm are encouraged to take extra precautions, including keeping an emergency kit in their vehicle with items such as a flashlight, food and water. Motorists can check the latest road conditions by calling 511.

City officials and emergency responders are reminding residents to plan ahead, avoid unnecessary travel during the height of the storm, and stay informed as weather conditions may change.

Updated forecasts and additional advisories are expected as the storm approaches. Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather updates and official communications throughout the weekend.

Indiana House, Led by Fishers’ Huston, Launches Diaper Drive for Families in Need

Todd Huston

Indiana House lawmakers are partnering with the Indiana Diaper Bank to collect diapers and diapering supplies for Hoosier families as part of the House’s 2026 philanthropy initiative.

House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers), who represents part of Fishers, joined House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne) in announcing the collection drive, which will run through the end of the 2026 legislative session in February.

The Indiana Diaper Bank works to ensure families across the state have access to essential diapering supplies. The nonprofit partners with 70 distribution organizations statewide and, since 2017, has distributed nearly 19.8 million diapers to more than 294,000 babies.

“We’re proud to partner with the Indiana Diaper Bank this session to support the vital work they do for Hoosier families,” Huston said. “The cost of raising a child adds up quickly, and no baby should ever go without clean diapers.”

The House will accept donations of new or opened packages of diapers in all sizes, pull-ups, wipes, diaper cream and clean cloth diapers. Donation bins are located near the House Chamber entrance and in the fourth-floor South Atrium at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis.

GiaQuinta said the organization provides crucial support for families facing financial strain. “It’s expensive and stressful to be a new parent, and the Indiana Diaper Bank helps Hoosier parents keep their heads above water,” he said.

In addition to physical donations, the House is also accepting monetary contributions to benefit the Indiana Diaper Bank.

Ashley Burns, president and CEO of the Indiana Diaper Bank, said diaper need affects one in two Indiana families. “When babies have access to clean diapers, they are healthier, parents are better able to work and families are more stable,” Burns said.

Fishers seeks resident input through 2026 Community Survey

The City of Fishers is asking residents to share their thoughts on quality of life and city services through the 2026 Fishers Community Survey, now open to adults age 18 and older.

City officials say the survey is designed to gather feedback on a broad range of topics that affect daily life in Fishers. Questions focus on overall quality of life, neighborhood experiences, public safety, transportation, growth and development, parks and recreation, and community amenities.

Residents are also asked to evaluate specific city services, including streets and sidewalks, utilities, snow removal, recycling, public safety, parks and facilities, public information, and customer service.

“Resident feedback is essential to how we plan, invest, and deliver services,” Mayor Scott Fadness said in a statement. “This survey allows residents to tell us what’s working well, where improvements are needed, and what matters most to them in their daily lives.”

According to the city, results from the survey will be used to help guide future planning efforts, identify priorities for service improvements, and inform investment decisions across city departments.

The survey is being conducted by Polco, an independent research and benchmarking firm that works with local governments nationwide. City officials emphasized that all responses are confidential and that no identifying information will be shared.

The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and will remain open through Feb. 24. Some residents may receive an invitation to participate via text message from Polco. The survey is also available online at this link.

City leaders encourage residents to participate to ensure community input is reflected in future decisions and initiatives.
