LarryInFishers.com is a local news site dedicated to Fishers, Indiana, and the people, decisions and developments shaping the community.
The site was created by Larry Lannan, a Fishers resident since 1991. Before entering government service, Larry worked as an award-winning radio journalist, including time as a reporter, news anchor and talk-show host. He retired from federal civil service in 2011 after a 28-year career.
After retiring, Larry saw a gap in the day-to-day coverage of Fishers. He wanted to put his journalism experience to work while giving something back to the community where he and his family had made their home. In January 2012, he launched LarryInFishers.com and began regularly attending local government and school board meetings.
What started as a small retirement project has grown into a wide-ranging source of Fishers news. Larry covers city government, Hamilton Southeastern Schools, public safety, road construction, economic development, local businesses and nonprofits, community events, arts and culture, and local sports. He also follows Hamilton County and Indiana stories when they have a direct impact on Fishers residents.
Larry added podcasting in 2016, providing local officials, candidates, educators, community leaders and residents with an opportunity for longer conversations. His podcast coverage now includes in-depth interviews and Fridays With Larry, a weekly program featuring local guests and perspective on news from Fishers and beyond.
Larry’s reporting and columns have also appeared in Current in Fishers, the Indianapolis Business Journal, the Hamilton County Reporter and Fishers Magazine through the Towne Post Network. LarryInFishers had a news-gathering partnership with the Hamilton County Reporter from 2017 to 2021, and Larry continues contributing a monthly news summary to Fishers Magazine.
Although Larry briefly planned to end the blog in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic reinforced the importance of timely, reliable local information. He decided to continue writing and podcasting, and LarryInFishers remains an active part of the community’s local-news landscape.
LarryInFishers is largely a one-person public-service effort. The site is free to read, with no paywall. Its purpose is straightforward: report what is happening, provide useful context, ask direct questions and give local voices room to be heard.
Thank you for visiting LarryInFishers—and thank you for caring about Fishers.
