Road Work Timeline in Fishers

With the announcement this week of an agreement to move forward with upgrades to State Road 37, I’ve been hearing questions from local residents about other street projects on the Fishers city schedule for the next few years.

Here’s information from the City of Fishers:

First, a roundabout is scheduled for construction at 96th Street and Cumberland Road. Work is set to start in the spring of next year.  The intersection will be closed 75-90 days.

Next is the new interchange to be constructed at 106th Street on Interstate 69. Construction is to start in the spring of 2017, with completion expected during the summer of 2017.

116th Street eastbound, just east of I-69 is to be widened beginning in June of 2016.  That work should be complete in the summer of 2017.

A roundabout is coming to the intersection of 106th Street and Cumberland Road, with work to begin in the fall of 2016.  Look for that intersection to close for about 100 days.

96th Street and Lantern Road will be getting a roundabout, with construction scheduled to begin in the spring of 2017 and completion expected in the early summer of that same year.

96th Street is due to be widened east of Lantern Road.  That work should begin in the spring of 2017, with completion expected in early 2018.

A roundabout is coming to 131st Street and Cumberland Road in the summer of 2017.   Crews are expected to be done with that project in time for the start of school.

The intersection of 126th Street and Allisonville Road is scheduled for improvements. That work is to start in the spring of 2018, with completion due the following fall.

Finally, the infrastructure improvements to State Road 37 are to begin construction in the spring of 2018.

And that calendar doesn’t even mention the extra lane being added to State Road 37, interchange improvements coming to the I-69 exit 210,  and the work set to be done on the Brook School Road Bridge over I-69.  The bridge will close during the construction period.

  1. Fishers advertising as being one of the best places to live in the country is a lie for the two subdivisions, two businesses, and multiple individual homes immediately west of I-69 along 106th Street. Fifteen years of sewage stench as they experimented with different equipment. Flash flooding along 106th Street west of I-69 by Cheeney Creek that is the only source of water for animals living in Ritchey Woods. Probable increased crime due to the character of the nearby residential area and proximity of the town border. Probable liability and safety issues due to the hills immediately west of I-69 that create visibility issues for stopped school buses. The fact that the airport is nearby and a Middle East link already showed itself to the FBI during Saddaim Hussein’s flight from US capture when a double showed up on Hague Road in front of the Catholic Church. Two governor declared natural disasters with hail that averaged $20k each in repairs. Repairs are a family lifestyle interruption! Eradication of an “endangered” Fisher Cat weasel that isn’t even listed by the DNR as being in the state. This will do nothing to fix the poor lane merger design of I-69 southbound as it merges onto I-465 east and west with the 86th ramp I-65S slow merge onto a three way sort pattern. This will increase probability of the nearby MEGA CHURCH attendees and elementary school students being exposed to violence. There are no benefits to this ramp!

  2. I forgot that there is no contingency plan for the two lift stations along 106th Street for cash reserves or health issues if either are rendered inoperable by a car or truck hitting them.

  3. Why isn’t anything being done to 116th Street (east of Allisonville Rd, west of I-69)? There should be no left turns allowed. It holds up tons of traffic and during rush hour, it’s chaotic. I suggest a turnabout at Fishers Point Blvd and 116th with a cement barrier down middle of 116th to alleviate left turns. There’s not even a left turn signal at Fishers Point Blvd and 116th.

  4. It is NOT going to be fun living in Fishers from March through August of 2017. With 5 major projects going on during that time, I predict not only increased traffic congestion on alternate routes but increased stress, crime, dissatisfaction among residents, and a worsening outlook for the future after that time.

Why can’t projects 5 & 7 (Roundabouts) be scheduled at a later time, instead of when all 3 major projects are also going on? This is poor planning, and should be rectified.

And while it may only be 6 months, the effect will linger, as the experience will likely leave a bad taste in residents’ mouths. Especially when that is also going to be a time when groups like HSE schools are going to come asking for more money (to replace the operating referendum that will be expiring) and the City Council is going to be asking for more, more, more money just to keep the lights on. It’s not a good forecast, from where I’m sitting.

May we all wake up and admit our mistakes, correct them (by starting with a clear, comprehensive, and believable economic forecast, then moving to a reasonable timeline for these infrastructure projects), and do better.

  5. Instead of putting in new round abouts why don’t we consider maintaining some on the ones that are already installed! The round about at 136 & Marilyn road is an eye sore & has been for years! I’d love to see the timeline for maintenance of all these “road improvements!”
