Grades 5-12 HSE Schools food service staff to be furloughed after September 18

When HSE Schools went with all-virtual classes last spring, the district said employees would remain on the payroll for as long as possible, even those not working.  After September 18, HSE District food service workers in grades 5-12 will be on unpaid furlough.

HSE Schools spokesperson Emily Abbotts tells LarryInFishers that the school corporation can no longer afford to pay these employees.  Ms Abbotts clarified that these food service workers will be working through September 4th.

“Many have been working, preparing meals for the virtual students,” Ms. Abbots said.

It is presumed the food service employees would be recalled when students return to their classrooms.

(NOTE: an earlier version of this story incorrectly gave the impression these food service workers had not been on the job, but is now clarified to show they have been working and that will end after September 4th and they will be paid through September 18)

  1. SHE IS WRONG!!!! Just like custodial workers when they were not prepping food or getting lunch for the teachers, they were cleaning and getting thing ready for when kids get back in school. Or do they thing kids will not go back until next school year? What I do not understand is why other Hamilton School Districts are in school and HSE is not? And do all the big shots at central office understand that they are a lot of single mom’s working in the cafeteria that depend on the paycheck for support of their family? But I guess they do not care about the people. They just care about themselves and how they are going to spend the money in trying to open a new Elementary School.

    1. They care about keeping children safe from a deadly disease. It’s the federal and state government that doesn’t care, if they did they wouldn’t make school funding dependent on butts in seats.
