Recovery Cafe of Hamilton County set for March 2nd Open House

Associate Executive Director Bryan Beasley works on his laptop as he greets people

Recovery is something many of us have experienced at some point in our lives.  The Recovery Cafe of Hamilton County, located at the Eller House in Fishers, provides a safe place for people to begin their journey to recovery.

The location, just west of Allisonville Road on 116th Street, has been in the slow process of opening its doors.  The Recovery Cafe plans an Open House at 3pm, Thursday, March 2nd.

Among those scheduled to be on hand for the Open House are Mayor Scott Fadness, County Commissioner Mark Heirbrandt and a representative of Governor Holcomb’s office.

You can learn more about the Cafe at this link.  I recorded a podcast about the Recovery Cafe in December, which can be heard at this link.

  1. Sounds like a great inclusive organization, I’m just wondering why all if the GOP politicians at the open house. It’s sure to keep a portion of potential members away from this event.

    1. Is that really the only response you have? If we all are to do better as a whole then it starts with each of us doing better as individuals. You had a choice in what to reply and that is what you used your choice for? It was a great article and it is a great idea. How about that for a response instead?

      1. Joe,
My response was exactly my concern! If you were part of a minority group and your state representatives were all GOP many writing terrible hate bills against who you are or perhaps your kids you would understand my comment. I am definitely wondering why politicians need to be at this open house? What’s the purpose? It’s an honest question because it would keep some away that could perhaps be helped by this new organization. Sorry that your lived experience is different than mine. I don’t in fact know how inclusuve this new organization is, but the fact remains that I have dealt with discrimination by some living in Fishers and it is the GOP politicians at our state house that are trying to make it worse for students who are LGBTQ to exist in this community. Some families feel they need to leave the state because of these hateful bills that target their kids. Yes we are a divided country right now especially with GOP bills going against best medical and mental health practices and taking the rights of parents away to provide health care to their kids.
I thought the article and mission of this organization was something good for the community and I may be interested in helping out in supporting it.

Joe, if you want to do better, think about not telling others how they feel and should react to an article. My concern are real and as valid as any of yours.
