Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness named “Forty Under 40” Alumni of the Year by IBJ

Mayor Scott Fadness

It was 2013 and I had only been writing this blog for a year or so.  Fishers was still a town and Scott Fadness was the Town Manager.

I clearly recall the Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ) honoring Fadness with recognition as part of the newspaper’s “Forty under 40” list.  Now, the current Mayor Fadness has been honored by IBJ as “Forty Under 40” Alumni of the Year.

Scott Fadness has come a long way from a grad student at Indiana University that interned for the Town of Fishers and very quickly was promoted until he had the top job of Town Manager.

When Fishers voted to become a second-class city, there were six candidates running in the the Republican primary during our first city election.  Scott Fadness made the decision to shed his role as an administrator and take on the role of political candidate.  Fadness has been mayor here ever since and is running for another term in 2023.

The IBJ story about his naming as Alumni of the Year is written by Samm Quinn, a former “North of 96th” reporter for IBJ and now an editor there.

You may need to be a subscriber to read the story online, but here is the link.

Congratulations to Scott Fadness.

Ryan Homes plan for housing development in east Fishers

Fishers High School We The People coach Liz Paternoster

Ryan Homes unveiled plans for two housing projects in the eastern part of Fishers, with 96th Street to the south, 101st Street to the north, one near Cyntheanne Road and the other along Georgia Road.

Ryan Homes’ attorney Murray Clark told the Fishers City Council Monday night that one section of single family homes will be be priced at about $600,000.  The second section will feature ranch homes in the price range of $450,000-$550,000.

Councilor Brad DeReamer voiced concerns about the density of the planned housing development.  The plans to rezone these properties needed one council vote to pass first reading and will now head to the Fishers Plan Commission for a Public Hearing.

In other items before the City Council Monday:

–First reading approval was given to bring the Northeast Commerce Park into the Nickel Plate District Code with technology in mind.  This proposal will also head to the Fishers Plan Commission for a public hearing.

–Three Fishers Police officers were recognized for years of service: Jonathan Floyd (20 years), Brad Myers (25 years), and Anthony David (25 years)

–Fishers High School was recognized for the state championship in We The People competition, a test of civic knowledge based on a congressional hearing format.  Coach Liz Paternoster presented her team, which will be traveling to Washington DC for the national competition.

–The HSE Cheerleading Squad was honored by the council for its award-winning season.

City Council gives unanimous approval to new City Walk development

The Fishers City Council unanimously put its seal of approval on a project agreement for the City Walk development, with a planned location south of 121st Street and west of Technology Lane.

The $75 million project will be located along the Nickel Plate Trail.  Fishers Economic Development Director Megan Baumgartner says there will be a variety of different housing types in this plan, including 87 for-rent multi-family units, 44 town homes for sale, and 101 for-sale condominium units.

Mayor Scott Fadness says the developers “have been very patient with the city as we’ve worked through the vision for this project, and how it fits in our ultimate downtown strategy.”  The mayor says it has taken about a year to make this project happen.

John Tuohy of the Indianapolis Star has written about this project.  You can read his story at this link.

Indianapolis man dies in Friday motorcycle crash on Southeastern Parkway

A Friday night crash in Fishers claimed the life of an Indianapolis man.

Dameion Dvail Ramsey, 39, is identified by Fishers Police as the motorcyclist that died in the accident.

At about 10:39 pm, officers were dispatched to a motorcycle crash on Southeastern Parkway at Jack Walker Lane.  A witness driving east in the right lane of Southeastern Parkway told police three motorcycles passed her in the left lane.  The third motorcycle crossed back into the right lane and appeared to lose control.  The motorcycle crossed through the lane, hit the right curb and a directional signpost.  Citizens at the scene started CPR. Fishers Police Officers and Fishers Fire Personnel arrived and continued lifesaving efforts. The rider was transported to IU Saxony Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

This was not the first time this group of motorcyclists had come to the attention of Fishers Police.  Below is a statement from the department:

“Prior to the crash, a Fishers Police Officer was driving southbound on Olio Road in the 12900 Block.  The officer observed a group of motorcycles driving northbound Olio Road at a high rate of speed.  The officer activated his emergency lights and siren and turned to pursue the motorcycles.  As he approached the roundabout at Southeastern Parkway the pursuit was terminated.  The officer had observed the group of motorcycles travel north on I-69 and asked dispatch to notify the Indiana State Police.  The officer went around the roundabout and went south on Olio Road to assist on a call on Eddington Place (East of Olio and 126th Street). The officer arrived at Eddington Place when the motorcycle crash was dispatched to Fishers Police.”

Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone traveling in the area that has information about the crash.  Contact Lt. Dave Seward at 317-595-3310.

League of Women Voters once again offering Vote411 in Hamilton County

If you live in Hamilton County and have questions about candidates in the upcoming primary election, the local League of Women Voters is again offering its Voter411 service.

Vote411.org is a nonpartisan resource that provides ways to access candidate information and bios and to find polling place locations, among other services.

“Vote411 is the best online election resource,” said Lisa Dick, president of the local league.
“One of our group’s focuses for primary and general elections is to prepare this guide for all of Hamilton County’s voters.”

League members have sought information from all candidates running in the primary this year.

They are contributing this information to the national Vote411 website so that Hamilton County users can see who is running in their areas and learn more about their platforms.
When logging onto Vote411.org, simply enter your address, and all the information on the next page will be tailored to your area. You’ll see descriptions of the office, then photos and bios of the candidates who responded to the league’s request for info. Dick said each candidate was sent a survey by email or postal mail, and their responses were entered by their own representatives. The league does not edit candidate responses.

Dick added a few reminders for primary voters. Indiana’s is a “closed” primary, which means voters select candidates in one party or another. You choose one party to cast all your votes, but you do not have to be a member of that party to choose its ballot.

“In the general election in the fall, you do not have to declare a party and you can vote for
anyone on the ballot, regardless of party,” she explained. A list of more primary voting
reminders is on the league’s website home page.

Vote411.org is free and nonpartisan in keeping with the League of Women Voters’ mission as an organization that encourages informed and active participation in government.

Leagues around the nation work to increase understanding of major public policy issues and to influence public policy through education and advocacy.
