Motorcyclist dies in Saturday evening crash

A Fishers man has died in a Saturday evening crash at 116th Street and Spyglass Ridge Drive (east of Cumberland Road).  Jasnoor Aulakh, 21, from Fishers, has been identified as the motorcyclist that died in the accident.  The driver of the other vehicle involved, driving a Ford F350 truck, is identified as Christina Sutton, 48, also from Fishers.

Police say Aulakh was transported to an area hospital from the scene of the crash. where he died.  Officers say it appears the Ford was in the process of turning westbound onto 116th Street, from Spyglass Ridge Drive, when the motorcycle, traveling eastbound, collided with the Ford.

The crash is under investigation by Fishers Police.

  1. Sorry to hear this happened. For many years we have tried to have the city make changes to 116th street. Cars go 50 to 60 MPH off the interstate. It sometimes takes 10 minutes or more to exit out of our only entrance and exit from our neighborhood. Our mayor played us against the neighborhood next to us instead of attempting to solve the problem. He then promised to bring it back up Ina September meeting 5 years ago that never happened!! We warned that there could be fatalities coming. The city put up a sign that says watch out for oncoming traffic. It’s a joke!

    1. If you had read the article you would have understood that the truck pulled out of Spyglass into the path of the motorcycle. She never saw him. The article makes no mention of speed being the issue.

  2. I have been thinking about a solution for several months since I conducted a constituent survey in Spyglass Falls a few months back. The entrance was the number one concern for the Spyglass Falls subdivision. I do not know the circumstances of why this young man was killed yet, but I’ve been greatly concerned about this intersection. I have a dashcam video of a risky driver pulling out of Spyglass Ridge.

We can do something about the Spyglass Ridge entrance.
    1) Enforcement? More Speeding tickets? I don’t believe this works.
    2) Speed bumps? Not a good alternative on such a major road.
    3) Automated Tickets? Illegal by state law.
    4) Traffic lights? Drivers say they last too long and East-West; we all know East-West traffic volume.
    5) Another sign? Signs do little to nothing.
    6) Connection between Spyglass Falls and Spyglass Hills at Laurel Falls Ln & Knightsbridge Ln so those in Spyglass Falls would have the option to avoid 116th Street. This proposal was rejected by Spyglass Hill residents who believe the neighborhood roads are too narrow and Hills did not want the additional traffic. Spyglass Falls has 244 homes. I don’t know the traffic impact of 244 extra homes, but that does not sound like much for a given day. But several years ago, the Spyglass Hill neighbors were very vocal about rejecting this idea.
    7) Road calming

I believe Road 116th St calming design is the best solution. What are some road-calming solutions?
    1) A strategically placed roundabout so Spyglass Falls can take a going east to round back going west or vice versa on the north side.
    2) Narrow the road at specific points with trees to make the road appear narrow. A driver’s natural reaction is to slow down.

I’ve had very brief conversations about this intersection with Mayor Fadness, our engineering, and a couple of other councilors. I realize my comments are reactive, but perhaps we must now be proactive.

    1. Forget item #2…The city doesn’t want speed bumps on city streets as police/fire/EMTS can’t move quickly through the city. Also, city snow removal would be hindered. How about close the entrance and go out Cumberland Rd?

  3. There is so much traffic thru our subdivision in Spyglass Hills from people cutting thru from Cumberland rd to get to 116th st it is ridiculous.

The cars go 40-50 thru the neighborhood, the speed limit is 25 posted. There are a lot of children riding bikes and playing in the streets.

The hill in our neighborhood is so dangerous and has a huge blind spot right where Spyglass Falls walk way is. It would be so dangerous. Coming up the hill you wouldn’t see a car pulling out.

Our roads are so narrow that you sometimes can’t get thru when there is a car parked on each side of the street.
The extra traffic that would be added by Spyglass Falls opening up the sidewalk, that is what that was made for a sidewalk , cut thru would be too much extra traffic.
When Spyglass Falls was built, there was a spot for another exit onto Cumberland Rd. The builder got greedy and built a house on that exit. Maybe the city can buy that house, knock it down and do the original plan of the second exit onto Cumberland?
