96th & Allisonville roundabout construction set to start in March

The roundabout planned at 96th Street and Allisonville Road is on target to start construction in March of this year, providing weather does not get in the way.  The city engineering department provided that update as the Board of Works & Public Safety approved American Structurepoint to provide construction inspection services as the roundabout is built.

In 2013, the Town of Fishers rebuilt the intersection at 96th Street & Allisonville Road as a “Michigan Left,” requiring those wanting to do a traditional left turn to, instead, turn right and do a u-turn.  The Michigan Left has come under fire and will be replaced by a roundabout once construction is complete.

In one other item before the Board of Works Thursday morning:

The Fishers Farmers Market has a new handbook, providing guidance for vendors.  You can review the handbook at this link.  A total of 79 vendors have been approved for the 2024 Farmers Markets, held Saturday morning at the area between City Hall and the Nickel Plate Amphitheater.

  1. Larry, do you have any info on whether or not the 116th and Allisonville roundabout is still a go for April start? A bit concerning for everyone who lives in this corridor, as the 90 day south/north shutdown of 146th and Allisonville is rapidly approaching. We all remember the traffic jams that occurred when the overnight shutdown of that area did not go according to the schedule a couple of months ago. I believe 6:00 a.m. is when it was supposed to reopen that day. Well, it didn’t happen until 9:00 a.m. I had never seen so much traffic on Allisonville that morning

  2. I just re-read what I wrote and I wanted to specify that I am indeed talking about the 116th and Allisonville roundabout construction. The city posted a while back that the construction was anticipated to begin in April of 2024. I’m guessing that the initial stages will include utility relocation and such, so I don’t anticipate any major construction and lane restrictions to begin until at least this summer, but it is still a major intersection, so any type of work being done there, whether preparatory or full scale can catch people unaware.

    1. The last update I found was about a year ago and the projection was a construction start late this year. If I receive any further updates, it will be poste on the blog.

      1. Thank you, and the link to the city’s projects’ list is now showing updated information from what I read in the past. It seems the project start is now TBA and it is supposed to go to bid this month. I’m guessing we will have some newer info after the contract is awarded which can happen any moment now. https://map.fishers.in.us/capitalprojects/
