Construction at 116th Street and Allisonville Road should wrap up by late October, the City of Fishers projects.

Project Engineer Tami Houston delivered that assessment to the Fishers Board of Public Works and Safety Tuesday morning, where she requested — and the board approved — a $345,000 change order covering repairs to business approaches along the corridor.

Many of those approaches are “damaged and in need of repairs,” Houston told the board.

The project is resurfacing 116th Street and reconfiguring the traffic signal at the Allisonville Road intersection. Prime contractor on the job is Indianapolis-based Rieth-Riley Construction.

According to the change order, a field assessment by the city and Rieth-Riley found concrete approaches next to the resurfacing limits with broken, spalled and cracked edges and panels, the result of age and weathering. Asphalt approaches were in similar shape, showing heavy wear and joint cracking after years of vehicles pulling in and out. Crews also found signs of drainage problems where the approaches meet the mainline pavement.

Rebuilding the approaches, the document states, will improve both the longevity of the new pavement and how water drains off the intersection.

Tuesday’s meeting was the first for new board member David Bolling, best known for his role with Launch Fishers and the Indiana IoT Lab. He replaces Jeff Lantz.
