The Fishers Police Department is on the scene a shooting incident. Officials issued a brief statement at 5:30pm Saturday:
“The Fishers Police Department is investigating a shooting in the 9300 block of Benton Drive. The shooting does not appear to be a random act.”
Brenton Drive is located in an apartment complex south of 141st Street, near State Road 37.
Police call this “an active and developing investigation.”
That is all the information being released publicly at this time.
State Representative Victoria Garcia Wilburn (D-Fishers) this week recognized the 35th anniversary of Indiana’s Guardian ad Litem (GAL) and Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program with a formal resolution at the Statehouse.
The GAL/CASA program plays a vital role in the state’s child welfare system by assigning trained volunteers to advocate for children involved in Children in Need of Services (CHINS) cases. Volunteers meet with the child, review court documents, speak with professionals involved in the case, and visit both parents and placements. They then prepare a report and make independent recommendations to the court aimed at protecting the child’s best interests.
In 2024, 2,812 volunteers across Indiana dedicated more than 285,000 hours to serve 19,602 children in the court system.
The resolution was supported on a bipartisan basis, with Senate President Pro Tempore Rodric Bray joining Garcia Wilburn in acknowledging the program’s long-standing impact.

The Fishers Freight of the Indoor Football League announced two player transactions Friday.
Quarterback Vincent Espinoza has signed with the team and will be at the Fishers Event Center for Saturday’s matchup with the Green Bay Blizzard. Espinoza has experience playing in the IFL with Tucson, Tulsa, Bay Area, and Iowa, along with other professional teams.
Also, the Freight announced wide receiver Gourney Sloan has been added to the roster. Sloan has most recently played for the IFL’s San Diego Strike Force.

The Fishers Health Department has issued results of E.Coli testing in bodies of water and found serveral areas with unsatisfactory results. However, the testing of the water at Geist Waterfront Park has passed the test.

The Fishers Health Department received unsatisfactory results during recent E.coli testing in areas of Geist Reservoir and the White River. This often occurs following periods of heavy rainfall and/or high heat.

June 19th is the date in 1865 that the last group of slaves in America were informed that they were free as the Civil War had ended. It has been a federal holiday since 2021 and Fishers celebrated the event with a Jubilee in 2025. Conner Prairie provided the grounds and the Future Black Leaders Club of Fishers High School, along with the Fishers Arts Council, put the Jubilee together.
The weather was as good as it gets for late June in Central Indiana. That drew a large and diverse crowd of people to the Jubilee. Plenty of commercial booths had setup space, along with a number of nonprofit groups. Agencies of government, such as the Fishers Health Department and the Hamilton East Library, were also there to greet the attendees.

Local television station WTHR is reporting that charges of rape and sexual battery have been filed against an Indianapolis man in connection with a recent home invasion in Fishers.

When people talk about the Bell Ford Bridge, the conversation inevitably turns to its storied past in Jackson County, near Seymour, Indiana. The bridge’s history dates back to 1863, when plans were first drawn to span the East Fork of the White River. Completed in 1869, it was hailed as an engineering marvel of its time, built with a then-novel combination of wood and iron.
More than 150 years later, the bridge — or at least key parts of it — has found a new home at Geist Park in Fishers. Much of the structure now crossing Cool Creek was constructed using original metal and wood from the 19th-century bridge.
After serving Jackson County for over a century, the Bell Ford Bridge was closed in 1969 due to safety concerns. Over time, weather and age took their toll, and sections of the bridge collapsed into the White River. Fortunately, Jackson County officials were able to recover and store many of the remaining components.
“This is the only known ‘combination Post truss bridge’ remaining in the world,” said Hamilton County Parks Director Chris Stice, emphasizing the bridge’s rare engineering significance.
The bridge’s journey to Hamilton County began when residents in the Luxhaven area asked about the potential for a trail connection in their neighborhood. That inquiry led Hamilton County Commissioner Mark Heirbrandt to explore the idea of relocating a historic bridge to nearby Geist Park.
Working with a committee and bridge preservation advocates, Heirbrandt initiated discussions with Jackson County officials to bring the disassembled Bell Ford Bridge to Fishers. Ultimately, Jackson County donated the salvaged structure to Hamilton County.
Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness commended county leaders for their vision and collaboration across jurisdictions.
“None of this has to happen, but it does, because we have leadership at the Hamilton County level that likes to do difficult things well, on behalf of the residents of Hamilton County,” Fadness said. “For that, I am grateful.”
The newly restored bridge provides a vital connection along the Geist Greenway Trail, which now stretches from 96th Street to 131st Street in Fishers.
The total cost of restoring and relocating the bridge was $7.5 million, with funding support from multiple levels of government. The federal government contributed $2.77 million to the project.
By working together, Jackson and Hamilton Counties have preserved a rare piece of Civil War-era engineering and made it accessible for future generations to experience — not as a relic behind glass, but as a functional part of a modern trail system.

When I was encouraged to apply for the HSEngaged program a few years ago, I wasn’t sure about that. After all, at that time, I had covered the local school board for over 10 years and attended a number of school events. Would I really learn anything new?
I applied, was chosen, and let’s just say I learned a lot about the Hamilton Southeastern Schools I did not know before. This is a program I would recommend to anyone with an interest in what is going on in our local school district.
Hamilton Southeastern Schools is now accepting applications for the 2025-26 cohort of HSEngaged, a program designed to give community members an in-depth look at the operations and decision-making processes within the school district.
Launched in 2021, HSEngaged is a nine-month experience tailored for parents, residents, and local leaders interested in learning more about how Indiana’s fourth-largest school district functions. Hamilton Southeastern Schools serves more than 21,000 students across 22 schools.
Participants in the program will attend monthly meetings from August through April, each hosted at different locations across the district. Sessions will provide behind-the-scenes insights into topics including business operations, academic programs, student services, and school safety.
“HSEngaged has proven to be an invaluable opportunity for community members to better understand how our district operates and how decisions are made,” said Emily Pace Abbotts, Director of School and Community Relations.
Applications are open now and must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Monday, July 7. Due to limited space, not all applicants may be selected. Those who apply will be notified of their status by July 31.

A new holistic wellness center is opening its doors in downtown Fishers later this month. Armonía Life Design will host a Grand Opening Community Open House on Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 12 to 4 p.m. at 8865 South Street.
The free event is open to the public and will feature a variety of wellness-themed activities and attractions, including outdoor yoga sessions, sound healing experiences, mini massages, food trucks, and a community raffle with prizes. The celebration is designed to introduce the public to the center’s services and team of wellness practitioners.
Armonía Life Design is a collaborative space that brings together a group of professionals known as the “Healers in Harmony.” The center offers a wide range of holistic healing services, such as counseling and therapy, therapeutic massage, Reiki and energy healing, sound healing, holistic facials, and mindful movement practices like yoga and meditation.
Founded by Donna Marie Marino, the center aims to provide a safe, supportive environment for individuals seeking emotional healing, personal growth, or a moment of calm.
The name “Armonía,” meaning “harmony” in Italian, reflects the center’s mission to promote balance and connection between the mind, body, and soul. The new space is intended to serve clients in Fishers as well as the broader Indianapolis area.
