The Indy Fuel have named Christian Horn assistant coach beginning with the 2026-27 season, the team announced Wednesday.

Horn, 33, returns to the organization he briefly played for. The Plymouth, Minnesota, native appeared in five games with the Fuel during the 2019-20 season, recording a goal and an assist.

The former forward played in the ECHL from 2017 to 2021, suiting up for five teams in all. His last stop as a player was with the Utah Grizzlies from 2019 to 2021.

Horn moved behind the bench after retiring. He spent the 2022-23 season as an assistant coach with the Cardiff Devils of the Elite Ice Hockey League in Wales, where the club finished 29-14-6-5. He then returned to Utah as a Grizzlies assistant coach from 2023 to 2025.

“I am truly honored to be part of an organization such as the Indy Fuel. My time here as a player was short, but incredible,” Horn said in a statement released by the team. “To be part of an organization that prides itself on success and working with good people, it was a no brainer when the opportunity presented itself.”

Horn thanked Fuel head coach Jesse Messier and the team’s ownership, the Hallett family, adding a message to fans: “Let’s get things rolling.”

Before his ECHL career, Horn played for three teams in the Southern Professional Hockey League. He spent two seasons at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.

His hockey résumé began in Minnesota, where he captained the Benilde-St. Margaret’s high school team in 2012. He posted 58 points in 25 games that season and helped the school win a Minnesota state championship.

The Fuel, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks, play their home games at the Fishers Event Center. The team relocated from Indianapolis to Fishers when the arena opened in 2024.
